Primary and Secondary School Staff Development

Little import is given generally to the requirement  for educators to have artistic skills, but with evidence clearly identifying that active teaching methods and learning kinosthetically and through play being the most effective; and with the mental health benefits included in encouraging a means of expression and increased creativity, it has never been more important for art to become a part or our everyday education.

Despite many teachers having no art training, they deliver the national curriculum to our children incorporating art in there teaching. Many may therefore be teaching the subject incorrectly, poorly or stating what they believe to be true as fact, inadvertently passing on the poor practice they were taught themselves as a child. Children will have to unlearn these inaccuracies or the poor practices taught throughout primary education at a later date, and with little subject specific knowledge, staff often order the wrong sort of supplies and equipment, not maximising on cost saving or student learning experience.

A little staff training can help save money, give more confidence to staff and help make there lessons more creative and thereby increase learner engagement and retention.

Devising and resources

Adumbration arts can create schemes of work, overviews, aims and objectives, lesson plans and resources in order to maximise creativity and differentiation throughout the curriculum. It can become very easy to play it safe and stick to what you know, but there may be more opportunities than you think to learn and teach through art.  Perhaps there is specific group of learners or an area of the curriculum which your staff have been unable to inspire or deliver to your or ofsted satisfaction,or due to lack of arts training teachers are not aware where artistic activity and creativity can be used, not just to support, but to deliver the curriculum.

What is not art: Inspiring Creativity and artistic activity in your lesson planning. 1 day workshop

Consultancy: Content, duration and cost dependant on requirements.
