Fruit, veg and eggs: As subjects to study go 'Its an oldie but a goodie'

It can be easy to feel like you're being 'run of the mill' providing these objects for students to study, as its a bit of an art class cliche and can be overused for its convenience by lazier tutors, but there are many good reasons why this classic subject shouldn't be undervalued. For many students these objects become not just an exercise in technical improvement, but a lifetime engrossed in the study of still life as an artist.
This classic is always a great beginners introduction to painting with colour and the relationships between colours, not to mention the variety of forms and textures there are to observe and render.
Yesterdays class did a great job on practising traditional colour mixing using a 2 red, 2 blue, 2 yellow and white pallet; and observing the subtle and sometimes tricky art of recognising, mixing and blending colours.

If the weather stays this good we will have a great time putting our colour theory and paint mixing exercises from today's and next weeks class, into practice outside over the next few months. The focus this term is using wet media techniques, colour mixing, matching and theory, perspective, composition and landscapes. If you would like to join us we still have spaces available, you can try a free taster session next week 7th May, 12.30-2.30pm at The Great Hall, Cholsey, Oxfordshire.
